Cornish Artist Competition

Every year, we select a fermentation that is particularly special with high ester tropical fruit notes to the cyder. We then mature it in oak barrels for up to 3 months which really develops into a lovely complex and fruity cyder

There are currently six varieties in the range and they are different on account of the type of oak barrel they are matured in.  Our Special Edition cyder is a delicate, Oak Matured cyder – enjoy in a wine glass not a pint glass.. but for something extra special and unique, our Limited Edition range really hits the spot.  Matured in either our own ex whiskey and ex brandy barrels or in ex American Bourbon barrels or ex Jamaican Rum barrels.  Every year, every fermentation and every maturation is slightly different which effectively means a limited edition of that particular cyder.

Thus the idea formed to commission paintings from four established local Cornish artists Paul Lewin, Melanie McDonald, Glyn Macy, Richard Pearce, and use copies of these paintings for the labels.  Effectively you will be buying a limited edition cyder and a limited edition copy of a Cornish work of art with its label.  For the other  varieties in the range, we  thought that it would be great to encourage Cornish art in general and find amateur painters who could contribute as well.

In 2015, with the support of CORNWALL TODAY magazine, we launched a competition to find Cornish amateur painters.  We were overwhelmed with the response, and have decided to make it an annual completion.

This year, we are delighted to be working in conjunction with Newlyn School of Art who are promoting the competition to their clients and we have extended persons eligible to enter the competition to our welcome visitors to Cornwall.

The shortlisted paintings will be displayed at the farm in an exhibition in December, reproduced on both our website www.healeyscyder.co.uk , www.newlynartschool.co.uk  and in the local media for members of the public to cast a vote for their favourite painting.  The winner will receive £500.00 and the runner up will receive a voucher for a 3 day landscape course at Newlyn School of Art.

Last years winner Rachel Lloyd Philips (a driving instructor from Camborne) says

Having won, I have had various commissions for work, which is great, so I would highly recommend anyone who is thinking of applying to do so….give it a go and enter”.
