A fantastic opportunity is available to join our busy Production team, to become a permanent part of an iconic Cornish business, and to make your mark in this exciting role as Packaging Manager.

As Packaging Manager you will be working closely with the Production Director and the wider Production Management Team, you will be instrumental in delivering the production plan. You will lead a team of Packaging Operatives to manufacture required stock, covering the set-up, running of the equipment, and ensure the training of the team reflects the skill requirements. You will be passionate about unlocking the potential of your team and instilling a culture of ‘Right first time’.

Hours: 40 hours per week on a flexible basis. Typical working days expected is Monday - Friday. Production operating hours are between 6am - 6pm. Please note, shift patterns/hours required to flex dependent on output requirements.

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per year.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • You will be accountable for ensuring that the production plan is met, you will work with the wider production management team to ensure pro-active operational control, and undertake reactive and preventative methodologies to prevent and manage downtime and under attainment.
  • Ensure a strong team understanding of departmental SOPs, record keeping and HCCF processes. Maintain daily and weekly compliance within these areas, and build technical team understanding to ensure records are kept and product quality is consistently maintained.
  • Lead from the front, working on the line if necessary to support your team to achieve the production plan.
  • Cross train your team on all aspects of packaging (bottling line, filler, kegging, CIP etc.) to enable the team to be more resilient and flexible to change.
  • Own the training and development of your team, ensuing they are compliant and safe to work at all times while identifying opportunities for further training/upskilling as it arises.
  • Work closely with the Quality team to ensure the product produced is of the best possible quality and adheres to all legal and Company specifications.
  • Alongside the Quality team and wider production management, play a key part in the company’s HACCP process.
  • Have a mindset of continuous improvement, looking for efficiencies and cost saving measures where possible and work with the wider production management team to implement these measures.
  • Put Health and Safety at the center of all decisions that you make.
  • Being a key point of contact between the packaging teams and the production management team.
  • Be driven to achieve your department and site KPI’s such as plan attainment, OEE, waste, water usage, labour spend and team skill competency.
  • To be open to completing tasks which may fall outside of your role or remit with a positive, sleeves rolled up mentality.
  • Any other activity/tasks as and when requested by the Directors.

Work Experience

  • Packaging of FMCG, particularly Cider and Wine packaging
  • Seasonal demand/control experience in a packaging environment
  • Management of performance standards
  • HACCP/Quality System experience
  • Demonstratable Health & Safety Management experience
  • Cider/Wine/Beer making experience

Qualifications

  • Management qualification or proven experience
  • Quality/Risk Management

Skills

  • Ability to drive cross functional team activity
  • Able to motivate staff/good quality communication skills
  • Pragmatic approach to problem-solving
  • Broad technical knowledge of packaging processes
  • Comfortable using data to drive decision making

This is not a hybrid role, you will be required to work on site.
