Packaging Shift Manager

A fantastic opportunity is available to join our busy Production team, to become a permanent part of an iconic Cornish business, and to make your mark in this exciting role as Packaging Shift Manager.
As Packaging Shift Manager you will play a key role in leading the current packaging shift. You will be responsible for ensuring that the production targets are met and liaising with the wider production team regarding potential issues and breakdowns as they occur. You will give your team the tools, training and guidance to be successful in their roles and you will lead by example in everything that you do.
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: Up to £38,000 per year
Duties & Responsibilities
- Put Health and Safety at the center of all decisions that you make. Be a role model for your team, demonstrating best practice at all times.
- Supporting the Packaging Manager, work to ensure all requirements required for daily success are organised and supplied to the team. Ensure that daily SIC is adhered to and acted upon.
- Lead from the front, working on the line as needed while supporting with the management of the team on shift.
- Ensure compliance with Packaging process and procedures at all times to meet requirements of external accreditation.
- Being a key point of contact between the packaging teams and the production management team.
- Overseeing bottling, canning and kegging line start up’s, close down’s & other tasks as directed by the operational management team.
- Work closely with the Quality team to ensure the product produced is of the best possible quality and adheres to all legal and Company specifications and to ensure compliance with procedures is met at all times.
- Key knowledge contact for operations team regarding operational machine set- up, changeover and optimised running
- Being a contact for minor faults and breakdowns, escalating to the Engineer on shift as needed.
- Have a mindset of continuous improvement, looking for efficiencies and cost saving measures across all operational KPIs, and work with the wider production management team to implement these measures.
- To be open to completing tasks which may fall outside of your role or remit with a positive, sleeves rolled up mentality as and when requested by the Directors.
Work Experience
- Packaging of FMCG (Food and Drink packaging especially)
- Seasonal demand/control experience in a process manufacturing environment
- Supervisory experience
- HACCP/Quality System experience
Skills
- Quality/Risk Management
- Able to motivate staff/good quality communication skills
- Pragmatic approach to problem solving
- Broad technical knowledge of packaging process – kegging, rotary filler, labellers, shrink wrappers
Qualifications
- Management qualification (not essential)
- Health & Safety Qualification or relevant experience
This is not a hybrid role, you will be required to work on site.
