Finance Assistant - Credit Control

You will support the department through the timely and effective management of the sales ledger, as well as owning and executing the dunning process to include communicating with clients. More broadly you will support the Finance Team in the achievement of its functional objectives.
Salary: £22,000-£25,000 depending on experience
Hours: Flexible 30/40 hours per week across Monday to Friday
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensuring the sales ledger is up to date with all relevant documents, and these are entered within 3 days of receipt
- Creating new sales accounts and update existing ones, reviewing all twice yearly (Sep/Mar) for credit limits, details & terms
- Carrying out credit and reference checks for all new or updated existing customers, proposing credit limit in accordance with our credit limit allocation principles
- Updating remittances, reviewing accounts as payments are posted and query missed invoices
- Chasing outstanding debts in line with current dunning process as well as raising credit notes requested by the sales team
- Obtaining authorisation for and processing debit notes for multiples, as well as processing stock movements for stock held off-site
- Assisting with the creation of stock codes and audit of stock, as well as processing all delivery notes and driver collections/returns/queries
- Carrying out EDI checks on a weekly basis and producing monthly statements for customers
- Preparing weekly aged debtor reports and related metrics in advance of weekly review, together with confirmation of progress and actions
- Resolving and clearing unallocated items to zero as part of weekly procedures, as well as reconciling card payment accounts, petty cash and cash book reporting
Flexibility in duties may be needed to cover “off-season” to ensure best business practice as well as any other tasks as deemed necessary by the directors of the business.
Relevant experience
- 2+ years in a Finance team of more than 3 people
- Credit control experience of 2+ years
- Reconciliation of account balances
- A strong understanding of commerciality (& timeliness) required on sales ledger
- Experience working in FMCG/leisure industry (desirable)
- Experience in sales ledger with >100 clients, >100 invoices per month, >£100k pcm (desirable)
- Experience with large multiple clients (desirable)
- Use of Pegasus Opera (desirable)
