A fantastic opportunity is available to become a key part of our busy Site Team as an Orchard Controller. To become a permanent part of an iconic Cornish business, and to make your mark in this exciting role please continue reading.
Working closely with the Farmhand & Estates Assistants you will follow the direction of the Estates Manager to deliver the company’s Estate strategy. You will also be wholly responsible for the management of our orchards balancing the need for maximum yield and attractiveness for our Orchard tours. Part of your role will be to assist the Vineyard Manager at our Vineyard as needed.
You will also be required to support the Estates team in their wider goal of providing well presented and safe grounds and facilities.
On a day-to-day basis, your success will look like:
- Year-round management of our Orchards. Working closely with the Assistant Estates Manager and any external consultant to maximise the yield of the Orchard. Orchard activities can include, harvest, spraying, pruning etc.
- Liaising with Orchard consultant and Estates Manager to design Orchard Plan based on the recommendations of the consultant and any other relevant guidance.
- Keeping Orchards tidy, clear from weeds and safe. Ensuring they are visibly appealing to all visitors.
- Ensuring relevant paperwork and checklists are completed accurately and in good time.
- As directed by the Estates Manager undertake general landscaping work, in the Orchards, at the Farm and Tregoninny.
- Work closely with our external contractors to manage rodent control both on site and in the Orchards.
- Maintain the fencing, gates and any outbuildings in the Orchards and on the Farm
- Assist the Vineyard Manager at Tregoninny as requested. Duties can include pruning, harvest, spraying and general horticultural tasks
- Have a focus on Health and Safety, setting the example to the rest of the team and adhering to accepted procedures to reduce unwanted events and accidents.
- To be open to completing tasks which may fall outside of your role or remit with a positive, sleeves rolled up mentality
While personality and fit are important to us, preference will be given to applicants who can showcase the following qualifications and skills:
- General agricultural and horticultural experience
- Site management/maintenance experience
- Orchard management experience
- Knowledge of H&S and safe working practices
- Tractor Licence
- Spraying certifications PA1, PA3 and PA6
- Industry recognized Chainsaw certificate
- Telehandler qualification
- Recognised Health and Safety qualification or experience
Hours: Contracted 40 hours per week. You will work flexibly, 5 days, Monday to Sunday.
Salary: £26,000.00 - £30,000.00 per annum
