Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm is a family-run, admission-based visitor attraction and home to the thriving production house of the famous Rattler Cyder! Since the company was founded in 1980, Healeys has grown incredibly, with listings across big supermarket chains such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons, in addition to our regional and national wholesale partners. With a multi-faceted production facility specialising in a range of products from ciders, wines, preserves and spirits, our business is thriving and has a very exciting future ahead.

A fantastic opportunity is available to join our busy Production team, to become a permanent part of an iconic Cornish business, and to make your mark in this exciting role as Cyder Technician.

The key deliveries for this role are:

  • As Cyder Technician, your role will be hands-on in the production process from raw materials to finished products on our award-winning range, including ciders, wines, fruit juices, spirits, and preserves. You will be responsible for making sure you follow all relevant procedures to the best of your ability and making sure costs are kept as low as possible
  • Working with the other Cyder Technicians on shift you will work to execute the production plan set by the management team.
  • Taking responsibility for the tasks given to you, you will complete them to the best of your ability, informing the management team if there are any discrepancies or need to deviate from the set plan/process.
  • You will work closely with the Quality Team to guarantee the products are of the best possible quality.
  • You will be trained in and be signed off on all aspects of the department including Process (Pressing, fermentation, filtering and blending) and Packing (Bottling and Kegging) and you will be expected to be able to cover all these different areas as and when the business requires.
  • You will take responsibility for putting safety first and always behave in a manner to ensure your own safety and that of others.
  • You will adhere to site processes and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation to deliver quality products.
  • You will own your personal training and development, ensuing you are compliant and safe to work at all times while striving for further upskilling as the opportunity arises.
  • Take an active role to identify and deliver Hygiene and Housekeeping improvements.
  • Take an active role to identify and deliver Health, Safety, Environment and Food Safety improvements (e.g. involvement in audits and document reviews.).
  • To be open to completing tasks which may fall outside of your role or remit with a positive, sleeves rolled up mentality.

Experience

  • HACCP/Quality system experience
  • Cider/Wine making experience
  • Experience working in a food and drink production environment
  • Awareness of Health and Safety best practices
  • Experience working in a small team with minimal supervision

Ideal Qualifications

  • Level 2 Food Safety
  • Level 2 HACCP
  • IBD General Certificate in Cider Making

Skills Requirements

  • Balanced judgement and good problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated and flexible in approach to tasks
  • Good communication and team working skills
  • Comfortable working with figures and bespoke computer systems
  • Technically minded and willing to learn about the cider making process

Hours: You will work flexibly on 12-hour shifts with hours typically from 6am to 6pm, flexible across 7-days, on a 4-on, 4-off continuous pattern. 40.25 average weekly working hours.

Salary: £11.44 per hour starting salary, with opportunity to progress
