Our Family

Our Family

David, Kay, Sam, Joe, Lara, the young Healey rascals, even Granny Joy – it’s our family that makes us who we are and always will be.

Founding the business in 1980, David and Kay handed over the reins to sons Sam and Joe as joint MDs in 2017.  Today, as a second-generation family runs the business, our vision is to celebrate our 100th Birthday.

Founder and Chairman At Healeys

We enjoy seeing people happy, and for me it’s the family that really brings a smile to my face. From the moment we first began making cyder in our Twin Screw press, to today, when I can watch, listen and advise the team, the family’s hard work makes everything that comes out of Healeys truly special. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and the memories that we’ve shared.

Where’s the perfect place to enjoy a Healeys tipple?

Anywhere, as long as you’re surrounded by friends and family.

Kay Healey

Company Secretary

I’ve been part of Healeys since the beginning and am so proud of helping to build the business to its present state and seeing the children carry it forward. As company secretary I’ve been able to step back from the daily running of Healeys but still make sure everything is ticking over. The farm is at the heart of what we do and is essential for our continuous improvement and development. Individual efforts really make a visible difference at Healeys and it’s so great to see so many people all committed to making it the best it can be.

What’s your favourite memory from working here?

Watching our shire horse give birth and the foal taking its first steps

Special Projects

I remember being on the farm at five years old selling apples to feed the goats. Family heritage is very important. We’ve been making cyder here at Penhallow for almost 40 years and the Healey name goes back generations in Cornwall.

My day involves anything and everything. From pruning the orchards, or making new blends, to looking after the animals or designing the new production facilities.

We take pride in our products and in our customers who visit us at the farm and who taste our products throughout the South West. There is nothing nicer in the summer than going down to the local pub and seeing Rattler on every table.

What’s your favourite place to enjoy a Healeys Cyder?

On the beach in the summer with the sun just about to disappear below the horizon.

Managing Director, Trading

Healeys is special. We’re a family-run company, with strong family values. When you put your name on something, it’s got to be good. It’s great to see the people that work with us sharing our passion, and genuinely wanting to make the best products, and give the best customer experience they can.

I love the variety, the flexibility, the speed of change and ability to create something that can then be enjoyed by thousands of people.

Being a small business, we all muck in where needed. Pride goes into everything we do, from laying 300 tonnes of cobbles in the museum by hand, to hand-picking apples or maturing cyder in carefully selected barrels. Everyone at Healeys puts pride, craftsmanship and hard graft into making the business what it is.

What’s your favourite Healeys memory?

Co-founding Sam’s and my first business; selling apples to tourists to feed to the animals.

I love getting out and about and meeting our customers face to face.  We’re really lucky that some of Cornwall's best venues stock our drinks – it's a great excuse to see all that Cornwall has to offer!  I’ve been working here since 2013 and it's amazing to think how the business has changed since then.  I’m really looking forward to the future, and being a part of this incredible journey

Where is your favourite place to enjoy Healeys products?

Oooh there are so many. I can't decide! It would have to be between the Wateringhole on Perranporth, or the Blue bar at Porthtowan. But then I really enjoy the Gylly beach cafe too! Any of the above and I'd be happy.
