A fantastic opportunity is available to join our busy Site Team as a Animal Welfare Officer, Farmhand & Tractor Driver. To become a permanent part of an iconic Cornish business, and to make your mark in this exciting role please continue reading.

Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: £12-£13 per hour

The key deliveries for this role are:

Each Morning

  • Feeding and providing all farm animals with water, fresh hay and straw
  • Cleaning out pens and enclosures to a high standard
  • Ensuring the physical wellbeing of all the animals on the farm

Day to Day

  • Ensure all animals are kept pest, parasite free and wounds are treated. Give any animal requiring medication its prescribed treatment.
  • Adhere to regulations concerning birds and animals and movement of animals including safe movement of animals from one area of the farm to another.
  • All paperwork for animals to be kept up to date including diaries, passports and movement forms.
  • Instigate a breeding programme to maximise and renew stock.
  • Maintain pens, gates, fences, cattle tools and aids.
  • As an experienced and qualified tractor driver you will be on call for various telehandler and tractor duties which arise across all sites including harvesting, hedge trimming, mowing and any other tractor jobs which arise at either farm.
  • Support the Visitor Centre as an “on-call” tractor driver when required for all tours.
  • Assisting the Site Team in maintaining the condition of the farm buildings and other maintenance work across the farm.
  • Lead of forestry maintenance and planning across the site.
  • Maintaining, cleaning and security of the agricultural machinery, tractors and equipment located across the farm to a high standard each Friday.
  • Ensure the farm is kept clean, safe and tidy.
  • Alerting the Head of Estates to any problems regarding the animals or farm.
  • Responsibility for MeritAg Check and ensuring vehicles and machinery are fit for use.
  • Carry out routine checks on weekly and monthly basis as specified by Head of Estates.
  • Report any issues to Head of Estates.
  • That the goals and objectives of the company are achieved by assisting in providing a preventative maintenance system for all areas of Healeys Cyder Farm

Secondary Duties

  • Assist in maintenance work as required.
  • Ensure company vehicles are kept clean.
  • Routine lubrication of machinery, locks, hinges as specified by Head of Estates.
  • General appearance of site, litter picking etc ensuring site is clean, safe and tidy.
  • Keep workshop tidy and ensure proper storage of tools and equipment.
  • Carry out regular building maintenance at appropriate times for aesthetics and site safety to include painting, preserving and basic repair work.
  • All health and safety guidelines must be followed (for yourself and others in your work area).
  • Agree time frames for completion of tasks/site activities.
  • All checklists and relevant paperwork completed accurately and timely.
  • Security of workshop and all tools/equipment therein.
  • Flexibility in duties to ensure best business practise across whole site.

Additional Duties

  • Rodent control across all sites.
  • Assist, when required, in the Orchards or Vineyards.
  • Any other activity/task as and when requested by the Directors.

  • Basic DIY skills.
  • Maintenance.
  • Physical strength and stamina to meet the demands of the role.
  • Good at practical work and using tools.
  • Good at problem solving and fault finding.
  • Able to understand technical diagrams and manuals.
  • Interested in machinery and engineering.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Understand safe working practices

Qualifications

  • Tractor and Telehandler licence.
  • Chainsaw ticket.
  • Working at heights experience.
  • Health & Safety

  • Responsible, honest, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Ability to stay calm in an emergency.
  • Flexible and enjoy varied routine.
