Production Engineer (POSITION CLOSED)
Objective: To provide technical support to Production, through the deliverance of PM and CM activities.
To be an integral member of the Production operations team, providing support with changeover activities and identifying opportunities, where re-engineering or re-designing operations will drive improvement in overall line efficiency or deliver quality improvement.
To work closely with the Engineering Manager and Engineer colleagues, delivering departmental objectives, focused on a systems-based approach to task identification/completion.
Support creation of a best-in-class workshop environment, using LEAN tools, to develop and promote excellence within the Engineering function for the business.
Reporting to: Production Manager
Close working relationship: Production Manager, Estates Manager, Operations Manager, Head Cyder Maker, Production Team Leader.
Basic Hours: Working hours will be 40 hours a week (average) as per contract and will need to be on a flexible basis, due to the needs of the company. Start time (dependant at times on shift pattern) could be from 6.00 a.m. until 2.00p.m. or 2.00pm until 10.00pm or 8.30am until 5.00pm Monday to Sunday (5 days). You will be required to work such additional hours as may be necessary for the performance of your duties and the production plan.

Responsible for fulfillment of mechanical/electrical planned and reactive maintenance activities across site, ensuring all equipment is serviced and operating safely, in accordance with OEM specifications and delivered to schedule requirements, which support production targets.

- Identify and rectify faults on all equipment, in a timely manner, with a focus on RCA and the development of preventative measures, to mitigate the potential for recurrence.
- Liaise with OEM and external support personnel to deliver technical expertise on plant equipment, aid confidence in operational understanding, and ensure swift resolution of issues impacting production efficiencies.
- Observe and challenge machine speeds to ensure production output is maintained at targeted levels.
- Coach Production Technicians in basic levels of autonomous maintenance and highlight issues within their control and capability, to resolve.
- Conduct or assist OEM’s and site service support contractors with repairs/service activities. Complete handover paperwork, confirming tasks have been completed to appropriate standards.
- Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance tasks, capturing details for further action and recording parts usage information for inventory purposes. Complete Weekly, Monthly, and Quarterly checks to defined standards.
- Liaise with key OEM and third-party suppliers for technical advice, parts provision, and equipment procurement, with a focus on Quality, Cost, and Service attributes, ensuring the Engineering budget is controlled.
- Have the ability to read and understand machinery manuals, engineering drawings, and schematics as an aid to initial fault finding and in planning for permanent root cause resolution.
- Work closely with department heads to ensure planned interventions are communicated in advance, minimising the potential for downtime and unanticipated outages.
- Ensure administrative tasks are accurately completed in a timely manner, including completion of daily logs.
- Conduct weekly maintenance walks, to target unidentified minor issues requiring corrective maintenance actions, as part of a continuous improvement program to deliver best-in-class standards.
- Support Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements, through collaborative working on risk assessments, contractor controls, legal and regulatory requirements, necessary within your area of operations.
- Support the failure review process following critical outages, developing contingency plans, schedule reviews, engineering solutions to prevent the opportunity for recurrence.
- In common with all other personnel within HCCF, the Engineer is required to adhere to the Company’s policies on Safety, Hygiene, Procedures, Policies, and Good Housekeeping.
- To fulfill elements of the Engineering Manager’s role, during periods of absence, ensuring workshop routines and maintenance schedules are prioritised in accordance with the needs of Production.
Work experience:
- An experienced multi-skilled engineer with practical experience in process engineering in FMCG environments.
Education / Qualification / Skills Requirements:
- HNC / HND or NVQ Level 3 Mechanical/Electrical.
- BS7671 18th Edition (or 17th working towards 18th).
