You will be responsible for setting the short-, medium- and longer-term strategy for the Engineering & Maintenance Department. This includes both reactive and preventative maintenance schedules for all machinery, vehicles, and buildings across the Healey estate. You will be leading a team of technically competent individuals who have a passion for getting things right first time, whilst promoting the highest levels of health, safety and compliance.

On a day-to-day basis, you will be:

  • Maintaining all existing plant, equipment and site services. Proposing improvements and capital investments which enhance capabilities and improve profit.
  • Taking responsibility for ensuring all health and safety, environment, quality, cost and reliability standards are met and driving conformance to regulatory and accreditation standards i.e. BRC.
  • Designing procedures for responding to mechanical failures and problems on the production line, taking responsibility for designing procedures which ensure rapid response and quick resolution of mechanical problems, so the impact on production levels is reduced.
  • Planning and execution of projects which alter the components or workflow of the production line, must be able to scope the project, obtain and submit quotes, once approved ensure that the project is completed to the specified timeline and budget.
  • Making decisions about the production line which take into account the production capacity requirements, food safety procedures, quality control, health and safety regulations and maintenance requirements.
  • Conducting audits on systems, equipment and maintenance strategies to ensure compliance with internal standards and maintain audit readiness.
  • Making estimates of maintenance costs as well as report, manage and control a maintenance budget.  Negotiate with suppliers to obtain the best price on parts and new equipment.
  • Ensuring confirmatory to all relevant engineering compliance, including Legionella, COSHH, Pressure Regulations, Working at Height, Confined Spaces, Fire safety, Permit to Work, Vehicle legalities as well as Health and Safety
  • Recording all procedures, maintenance schedules, projects and risk assessments so all staff understand all the processes that must occur in order to follow best practice and remain legally compliant.

Personality and cultural fit are really important to us, but we’ll also be looking for the following qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment (ideally food production).
  • Health & Safety qualification - NEBOSH (desirable).
  • Proven ability to manage and lead a high performing team.
  • Trained to 18th edition (desirable).
  • Experience in providing process improvement and creating engineering solutions involving complex machinery.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Previous experience of successful Health & Safety implementation.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair faults.
  • Strong multi-skilled background.
  • Demonstrable People development mindset.
  • A desire to bring a new dynamic.
  • Demonstrable capacity to work as part of a cross functional team.

Hours:

  • Contracted minimum 40 hours per week. You will work flexibly, 5 days, Monday to Sunday.

Salary:

Up to £55,000 per annum
