Junior Finance Assistant

You will play a key role in assisting the Finance Team in the day to day running of the department and provide support to other areas of the business as required. This is primarily a finance role dealing with both sales and purchase ledgers and associated functions. Providing secondary cover for other financial duties.
This role is aimed at individuals looking to start their career in finance and accounting. Possibly as a college leaver or someone looking for a career change. Full on the job training will be provided and progression to an apprenticeship (such as AAT training) for the right individual is a possibility.
Salary: £18,000.00 to £22,000.00 depending on experience
Duties & Responsibilities
- Processing invoices, reconciling delivery notes to invoices received and purchase orders in accordance with Financial Policies
- Helping the wider Finance team to ensure purchase orders are utilised across the business, and cost prices are matched
- Maintaining existing account details within the ledgers
- Processing BACS payments and preparing BACS import files for upload to the online banking platform
- Processing cashbook payments and ensuring prompt filing of supplier invoices
- Investigating and resolving queries as required
- Ensuring adherence to month-end deadlines and liaising with suppliers and customers concerning invoice queries
- Providing any other support to Finance Team as required
- To be open to completing tasks which may fall outside of your role or remit with a positive, sleeves rolled up mentality.
- Flexibility in duties may be needed to cover “off-season” to ensure best business practice as well as any other tasks as deemed necessary by the directors of the business.
Relevant Experience
- Previous finance or accounts experience (not essential)
- Experience working in a fast paced team and working under pressure, especially during peak season
- Experience using Microsoft Office, especially excel
Skills required
- An eye for detail, self-motivated and enthusiastic
- Strong mathematical ability
- Works with pace, the urgency to meet all deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy
- Excellent organisational skills and works well under pressure
- Willing to take on responsibility and learn new skills
- Team player within the finance department and company-wide
- Good communication skills
- Friendly and approachable
